Environmental Risk Assessment UK and Waste Management

Brown & Mason are certified to an Environmental Management System applicable to Demolition & Dismantling and Asbestos & Toxic Waste Removal. This has been assessed and registered by National Quality Assurance Limited against the provisions of BS EN ISO 14001. This Environmental Management System is monitored closely and audited yearly by NQA.

It is our policy to give environmental issues the highest priority. As a minimum standard the Company will undertake works strictly in accordance with the provision of all current legislation. This ensures as far as reasonably practical, that adequate protection of the environment is provided against unnecessary exposure to potential hazards and risks.

High standards of environmental care

Demolition, asbestos removal, decontamination and ground remediation are environmentally and socially beneficial activities, removing superfluous and potentially unsafe structures and hazardous insulant and other materials.

The Company acknowledges the interface between demolition/asbestos removal operations and the environment and strives to attain and preserve a high standard of environmental care in accordance with, and with full regard to, the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

We are committed to the continual improvement of our environmental performance. In our decision-making we take due cognisance of the environmental impact of our activities.

The Company promotes the safe implementation of various demolition and asbestos removal techniques and controls harmful emissions to the environment. We safely deal with demolition arisings, asbestos and contaminated materials and all other waste materials in accordance with our Waste Management Policy.

We continue to develop techniques of enhancing the environmental effect of current and future intended activities, in which we promote and manage conservation considerately and conscientiously.

We liaise with the statutory authorities, environmental bodies and neighbouring properties in the vicinity of active sites.

We continually monitor our policies and update them to reflect future developments and we undertake monitoring of air quality, noise and vibration.

Environmental facts

Did you know that in the UK, buildings account for approximately 50% of our total annual CO emissions?! These emissions are produced during their construction, operation and demolition.
